5 Things We've Been Watching : January 2019

We love video here at PEG (obviously) and talk about it pretty much non-stop. So, we wanted to share with you five things that caught our eye, started a conversation or gave us a little inspiration over the last month.

Whelm Yourself: A Guide to Red Giant's Tools

Watch It Here Why it’s a thing: Sometimes technology can be pretty overwhelming, even if you work with it every day. This video from Red Giant that answers the seemingly unanswerable question from "10 Things I Hate About You" - "Can you ever just be whelmed?" They do a great job of breaking down their various suites of tools and showing all the power they have without getting too in the weeds about how it does it. It's fun to watch and easy to understand. And we are very whelmed with it.

Watch It Here Why it’s a thing: This is a pretty unique look behind the scenes at a video project. Sure, it has all the cameras and tech, but it also shows that sometimes the keys to a great shoot are a lot of patience and a lot of planning. (especially when you are dealing with living things that work on their own timelines.) Watch the full finished piece here.

Disney - The Little Duck

Watch It Here Why it’s a thing: This video is a beautiful spot. Not only is the 3D work just stunning, its story is charming and heartwarming as well. Telling a story like this with no words, just using facial expressions and other character animations is not an easy task. But then again, anything that has the Disney name on it should be pretty good at that.

Gatorade | You Fuel Us, We Fuel You ft. S. Williams, J. Tatum, C. Pulisic, L. Sanders

Watch it Here Why it’s a thing: This spot from Gatorade is all around fun, intense and upbeat, what you might expect from a sports drink. But what we like about it is the effects and transitions from the sports side to the science side. It's an interesting look at the parallels. (And, of course, its well shot, well lit and the effects are pretty neat, too.)

Visit El Paso in 2019

Watch It Here Why it’s a thing: We have said it on here before. We love a good tourism/come visit our city kind of video. Especially from a city that is reinventing itself like El Paso. They hit a lot of marks in here for targeting the wanderlust millennial crowds - indie feel, upbeat music, bright colors, the outdoors, alcohol, plates of food. Check, check, check. But even with all these possible cliche scenes, it still feels fresh and vibrant. Makes us want to give El Paso a chance.
