I have a Pinterest addiction. It’s so serious that i might be in need of a pintervention. (See what I did there?) But every once in a while I stumble onto something really awesome that makes it onto the cover of one of my boards. I found a quote the other night that goes, “If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try.”
I LOVE this. I mean, that’s the number one reason that ever keeps me from trying something and I’d bet money that if you’re reading this you can relate. Fear is a very strong deterrent. What if I make a fool out of myself? What if I mess up? What if I get embarrassed? What if everybody laughs at me? These are all understandable concerns. But think back to something you did that scared the crap out of you. I bet it turned out 10 times better than you had ever thought.
This past year was probably equally the most terrifying and rewarding of my life. For starters I produced my own show for the University of Akron after only being a part of ZTV for one semester. I wasn’t sure I had what it took, but I said yes and as a result I made some lifelong friends and got to meet and interview some of my favorite musical artists.
Speaking of music, I got over my crazy stage fright by starting a band and playing shows. As a result of that I had the opportunity to play live on New Day Cleveland on Fox 8 at the end of my internship there. That was pretty amazing. I also had the opportunity to produce my first live sporting event for PEG this past November, when I called a Youngstown Phantoms hockey game. It was pretty nerve-wracking because I had only ever seen maybe five hockey games before that, but I studied up and with the help of our team it went smoothly!
I’ve realized that my favorite memories from the past year were the situations that scared me to death before they happened. So I guess what I’m getting at with all of this is, what would you do if you weren’t afraid? Well it’s a new year with new opportunities. Why don’t you go find out?
