My Creative Inspiration

I had to think about this for a minute. At first I was trying to come up with one particular person, like a write or a director, or someone influential in the industry. But you know what? At the end of the day, I’m honestly more inspired by the world around me. The things I see in passing. The things I stumble upon (sometimes literally using that website. Seriously if you’ve never been on it, you NEED to check it out stumbleupon.com).  I’ll spend hours sometimes on Pinterest looking up examples of graphic design and typography. I’ve gotten so many cool ideas from just observing other people’s work, and a lot of times it’s inspired me to go and look up a tutorial because I love it SO MUCH I need to know how to create it. I’ve always been like that. In fact, that’s why I learned how to play guitar. I was so inspired by some songs that I felt the need to be able to replicate them. I can’t explain the feeling really, I’m just filled with the desire to create and that’s what good inspiration is!

I have one other source of inspiration. You’re probably going to think it’s really cheesy, but believe me when I say that this is a huge motivator for me to keep creating. The people I work with. Seriously, everyone here is so talented and creative and I thrive when they’re around. When you’re creating something from scratch, for example some sort of graphic design, there’s no road map. There’s no paint by numbers way of finishing. Everyone pulls from their own individual inspirations and creates something truly unique to them. I love watching Andrew come up with a beautiful graphic created with colors that I never would have thought of using, or watching Jeffrey create an animation with an effect that I didn’t even know existed.

Basically, when it comes down to it, we’re all just mosaics of pieces and parts of people and experiences that we’ve picked up along the way. We’re unique snowflakes of creativity. We all have a one-of-a-kind fingerprint when it comes to inspiration. Are these enough analogies for you? I guess what I’m trying to say is take everything in! Listen, I mean really listen, to the lyrics of that song. Watch that movie and browse that website. You never know when you’re going to stumble onto something that inspires you.
